Please note that XBOX X|S Games have to be played directly from the internal SSD. The external USB HDD can be used to store the XBOX X|S Games as a buffer, but they cannot be played directly from the USB HDD. However, you can play XBOX ONE games directly from the USB extended storage, which frees up space on your XBOX Series X|S console storage.

To play XBOX X|S games, you need to copy the game data from your USB hard drive back to your console's internal SSD storage. This is much quicker than re-downloading the game.
